By 2012 LG Electronics is aiming to become the second largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. It hopes to sell 140 million phones this year alone, according to the company’s business plan.
The Korean electronics company will release some 20 different phone models during the year, most of which will be based on Google’s Android operating system. Although models based on Windows Mobile will be released as LG has a partnership with Microsoft. Cellular was previously reported that the first phone from LG based on the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 is supposed to reach the market in the autumn. LG looking for new ways to distribute their phones and have therefore include contractual agreements with the U.S. retail chain Viking Range on the sale of its products in Wing Range’s stores.
LG is expected to showcase more of its new mobile phone models at the big Mobile World trade show in Barcelona in February.
