keeping in view of the big touch screen and latest operating platforms, N900 seems to be a better choice. But I am not sure about Maemo, should not die soon with problems.
May be mobile experts can throw some light on this for zeroing in on the choices from N900, N97, N97mini.

if u like configuring mobile phone as per your choice then u should go for N900,
else go anything else.
N900 is just awesome.,u dont have to worry about maemo,it works just fine, else u can install applications to it by ur choice for free,,
they are available on net for free.
its like using linux,and configuring every aspect of it as per own requirement.,
it feels good when ur phone OS is something special,nit just like everyone else regular symbian,useless os.
I think u should go for N900

okay here’s the deal, layman’s terms edition…
n900 is the businessman/lifestyle phone. it leans mostly on the business side, but it can still boast an awesome processing speed for your other needs, notably fast for a nokia phone. if you’re the type who works and plays (but mostly works), i suggest the n900.
the n97 on the other hand, is like a lifestyle phone on steroids. a crazy 32gig mass memory space is its biggest noteworthy point. kind of laggy at times, but it gets tolerable, and you ACTUALLY get used to it (i did). if you’re the type who can’t help but put lots of random $h!t in your phone, i suggest go for n97.
the mini… is just a mini version of the original. except its mass storage memory is significantly reduced to 8gig. still big but not exactly as EPIC as its brother (it is kinda faster than the original).
